About CIAC

Our nation’s dependence on information infrastructure for our social and economic well-being is larger than ever. The threats to these systems are increasing, requiring new protections against a whole host of new attack methods.

The University of Washington Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity is committed to equipping specially educated professionals, conducting innovative research through broad collaborations, and providing educational outreach to raise public awareness of information assurance.

The CIAC has been a national DHS/NSA Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance education since 2004, and has obtained the new Center for Academic Excellence – Research (CAE-R) designation in 2008, partnering with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Across the University, the CIAC actively collaborates with many departments to integrate IA education and research including the departments of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Law, Public Policy, and Urban Planning.

From a broad definition of IA that draws on a wide range of academic disciplines that contribute to information assurance activity on campus, the CIAC’s main activities are focused in the following areas:

-Academics
-Research
-Collaboration
